Today we will continue with the 2nd promise from our 4-part series in which we are pinpointing ways moms can celebrate and rely on God’s promises for us. We hope you are enjoying this month of Mondays as we explore specific verses of scripture and discover what they might mean for us today.
I brought our car to a complete stop. Right in front of us was a fuzzy little brown-haired moose. But the fur that had been smooth and silky just moments before was now bristling and standing on end. Clearly this baby was afraid of the big scary people staring at it from the big scary metal object on four wheels. It seemed too frozen to move, unsure of where safety might be.
Like a Planet Earth episode in slow motion, a majestic mama moose gracefully emerged from the other side of the road. She was coming to rescue her baby, willing to do whatever it took to help her little one, leaving the safety of the woods and making herself vulnerable to attack. She turned back for only a moment, as if she had forgotten something. To our surprise and delight, there was another little baby moose peeking out of the trees. She nudged it lovingly, encouraging it to tuck back into the bushes, assuring its well-being as she went to help its frightened sibling.
We watched in awe as the mama slowly and grandly made her rescue, pushing her baby ever so gently toward safety. And as the kids clapped and cheered from the back seat, I couldn’t help but think of the Scriptures where God is described as a mama hen gathering and tucking her children under her wing (Matthew 23:37; Luke 13:34). Or the Psalms where David talked about hiding in the shelter of God’s wing. There is comfort there. There is peace and rest and safety.
Weary mother, may this picture and promise of God’s care for you reach into the very depths of your soul today. For we serve an amazing God who cares for us. And not only cares, but a God who wants to comfort us through the struggles and storms of this life. He sees our tears and our frustrations. When we’re cross-eyed from dirty dishes and whiny children. He knows our hurts and understands our aching desire to love our children well.
And because of His GREAT LOVE for us, He has provided a way to safety. Real safety. The ultimate rescue plan has already been put into play; a way to guarantee life with Him forever.
Because of what took place on the cross approximately 2,000 years ago, we have access to the Father. Access to His comfort and the needed shelter and safety of His arms. Doesn’t that just make you want to squeal with joy and thankfulness? The blood of Jesus has paved the way for sweet security – life everlasting in the best safe house ever!
Like that baby moose being led to safety, you can trust the heart of the Father leading you out of harm’s way and into the comfort of His arms. So go gather your worries. Collect all your fears. And place them into the hands of the One who knows just what to do with them. Then hunker down, curl up, and soak in the solace and peace of His presence.
May you find REST there, mom. For He is the very best refuge. Our perfect hiding place.
