Above the Waves {With Special Guest: Candy Gibbs … and a giveaway!!!}

Joining us today is author Candy Gibbs. She is passionate about equipping parents as they look for ways to pass the baton of faith on to their children. So whether you have teens in your household right now, are anxious about the teen years yet to come, or simply looking for ways to encourage the next generation, we think you will find hope in Candy’s words.

Above the Waves

I’ve recently written a book called Rescue: Raising Teens in a Drowning Culture. Sounds ominous doesn’t it? Do you believe our children’s generation is drowning—being overcome by depravity, vulgarity, and perversion?

I have worked in a Pregnancy Center for 20 years, and believe me when I say the enemy has a plan and it IS to drown our teens in the turbulent, murky, unsteady waters of this world. I see it every day.

So, what are we to do as Christian parents? Tread water and be terrified? Look around and see everyone else going under and decide we will just have to go down too if we want our teen to fit in?

The current culture is frightening, BUT (and that’s a big but!) we just need to sit, be still, and remind ourselves that our God walks ABOVE the waves. Our God calls us to look up, look out, and see Him. Lift our heads and focus our eyes on Him, because He can calm the furious squall with a word. Let the Spirit of the Living God whisper to you…here is what HE says about your teen today:

He goes before & behind them.  (Deuteronomy 31:8)

His wings cover them.  (Psalm 91:4)

He gives His angels charge over them.  (Psalm 91:11)

He has prepared good works for them.  (Ephesians 2:10)

He equips them.  (Ephesians 4:12)

He knows the number of hairs on their heads.  (Luke 12:7)

His thoughts of them are more numerous than sand.  (Psalm 139:17-18)

He has not forsaken them.  (Deuteronomy 31:6)

He has called them for such a time as this.  (Esther 4:14)

He has called them to be a light.  (John 12:36.)

May you always look for Him above the waves,

  1. As a young mom who adopted an older child, I will be raising a teenage much sooner than I ever thought! My daughter just turned eleven and is entering a new stage of behavior and emotions. I’d love any help or wisdom about raising teens! Love you ladies and looking forward to the next entry!
    In Him,
    Cheryl Carpenter

  2. Yes! 🙂 We also adopted an older child and found ourselves going from littles to pre-teen, now teen 🙂 Anything to help us get our head wrapped around and prepared to do our best for our kids through this stage, would be a blessing!!

  3. Two teens and two Tweens! So good to focus on God’s perspective and His plan rather than that of the world. Thanks ladies for being a beacon of light for moms!
